Membership

CATEGORIES OF MEMBERSHIP

Membership of the Association shall be of the following categories of members: .

  1. Full members
  2. Associate members
  3. Ordinary members
  4. Student members
  5. Fellows
  6. Honorary Fellows

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR MEMBERSHIP

Any person who has an interest in Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics who fulfills the following criteria shall be eligible for membership of the Association.

  • A person with M.B.B.S. or equivalent basic medical qualification with full registration in the Sri Lanka Medical Council (SLMC) under Section 29

OR

  • Any other related qualification acceptable to the Council of the Association, to be decided on an individual basis

ADMISSION TO MEMBERSHIP AND PRIVILEGES

Full members

  1. Any person who meets the criteria stipulated under eligibility above and has qualifications of MD with Board Certification OR offered privileges of Board Certification by the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine, University of Colombo OR Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) OR Membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Health (MRCPCH) with Certificate of Completion of Specialty Training (CCST) OR Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) OR PhD in pharmacology or a related discipline shall be eligible for Full membership.
  2. Full members shall be eligible to hold office in the Council or the Executive Committee, vote at meetings and receive journals or newsletters published by the Association.

Associate members

  1. Any person who meets the criteria stipulated under eligibility above and is pursuing a career in Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics OR in a postgraduate programme of study leading to a MD/PhD OR holds a MPhil/MSc in pharmacology or a related field and do not fulfill the criteria for Full membership shall be eligible for Associate membership.
  2. Associate members shall be eligible to hold office in the Council, vote at meetings and enjoy all other privileges enjoyed by Full members except holding office in Executive Committee.
  3. Associate members who complete the programme of training and fulfill the criteria for Full Membership shall automatically become Full Members of the Association upon payment of the relevant fee.
  4. Any Associate member who fails to complete a programme of training and become a Full member of the Association within a maximum period of eight (8) years commencement of such training shall automatically become an Ordinary member of the Association.

Ordinary members

  1. Any person who meets the criteria stipulated under eligibility above and does not meet the requirements for Full or Associate membership shall be eligible for Ordinary membership.
  2. Ordinary members shall not be eligible to hold office or vote. However, they shall be eligible to receive journals or newsletters published by the Association.

Student members

  1. Any person with an interest in Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics who is an undergraduate of a M.B.B.S programme in a university recognized by the SLMCqualified graduate of such a programme without full registration in the SLMC shall be eligible for Student Membership.
  2. Student members shall not be eligible to hold office, vote or receive journals or newsletters published by the Association.

Fellows

This is the highest Honour awarded by the Association. Those persons of eminent standing who have made extraordinary contributions to the advancement of pharmacology, therapeutics or a related field and elected at an Annual General Meeting following nomination by the Council shall be awarded Honorary Fellowship of the Association in recognition of their valuable services. Honorary Fellows shall not be eligible to hold office or vote.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

  1. All duly completed applications should be forwarded to the Secretary of the Association. The membership shall be subject to Council approval and ratification at thee Annual General Meeting.
  2. The membership fee payable by Full members, Associate members, Ordinary members, Fellows and Student members of the Association shall be of such amount and at such times prescribed by the Council of Association from time to time.
  3. All members of the Association except Honorary Fellows shall enjoy the stipulated membership privileges upon approval of the membership by the Council.
